So I have a WD 1TB laptop hard drive in an external enclosure, it was put into an xbox360 and formatted to 'ExFAT' (320GB partition) after I tried to reformat the drive into 'NTFS' I can format the 320GB into 'NTFS' but the other 700GB are missing. I have ran Chkdisk on the hard drive and it came up with no errors.
Hdd firmware downloads. Pc-3000 support downloads. Data recovery and hdd repair tools this website may help you but the files are pcr have no clue on what pcr means or how you use them.
I have opened it up in disk management and you can only see the one partition that is 320GB (please see picture in link). I have even ran WD's 'Data Lifeguard Dianostic' with 0 success. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can recover the missing 700GB to restore the hard drive to its original condition.note: There is no data on the hard drive at all http://i50.tinypic.com/2wlx2j5.jpg. Download and burn /make bootable usb hirens boot cd Remove the hdd from the enclosure, make a note of the model number and post it here.
Ok, so while doing some more research on how a drive could have its firmware switched, I came across a program that people use to hack normal hard drives to work with their Xbox360 (refer to my original post the person I got this hard drive from used it in an Xbox360) HddHackr reads the HDD firmware version, serial number, model number, and capacity in LBAs from sector 16 of the original Xbox HDD, and then writes this information to a supported WD drive of equal or larger capacity. It does this by using WD's vendor specific commands (VSC) to modify the HDD's firmware. AIUI, in the case of a ROYL drive, the relevant firmware modules are 0D and 02.
The result of this hack is that the WD drive then identifies itself in the same way as the original drive, eg Seagate ST9320325AS. The WD drive's original modules are backed up in an UNDO.BIN file. Only problem with this is, that the person who gave me the hard drive had already tried to reformat the drive before they gave it to me, getting rid of the 'UNDO.BIN' file So digging around a bit more I found this: The person posts a fix using MHDD to view the original firmware then uses another 'UNDO.BIN' file that was made for that drive. I can't seem to find an 'UNDO.BIN' file that will work with a WD10JPVT-22A1YT0 drive so using that fix won't work for me. Also I don't have the option to enable Legacy IDE in my Bios. I'm not to familiar with hacking hard drives to work with Xbox360's so I'm sort of lost as to how I might be able to undo the changes without bricking the drive.
Modfreakz and Schtrom released a few day ago a new build of HDDHACKR now in version v1.40. This MS DOS tool allow you to format a regular WD 2.5″ HDD into the xbox format (FATX), then you just have to put in a xbox hdd case and use it as a genuine xbox 360 HDD.
